The Story of the Black Crayons

Another shining example of people over-reacting.

Basically, it is noticed that a child is always drawing with black crayons. Rather than ask “why” the child is always drawing in black, it’s immediately assumed that there must be some terrible psychological problem that needs to be addressed by calling in the parent and maybe prescribing some drugs.

Of course, the real reason the child was drawing with black crayons… well, I won’t spoil the story for you. Go read it yourself and find out.

  1. Yeah, my Mom had trouble explaing I was OK to my pre-school teachers, too. I had the tendency not only to color outside the lines, but to use very unnatural colors. Sad, I know. Let the kid just enjoy whatever colors he likes!
