does anybody know the etymology of the word “patriot” with respect to this legislation?
It is actually the USA PATRIOT Act, which is an acronym for “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism”.
I thought it was the “Useless State-sponsored Action Purporting to Attack Terror while Really Initiating an Oligarchic Takeover”
And while we’re on the subject, what IS it with the recent trend towards creating cute little acronyms for complex laws? CAN SPAM, USA PATRIOT, etc. It’s such an obvious attempt to divert the issue away from the law itself and towards the name of the law that it makes me SICK.
