Images from yesterday’s … incident.

The “path of doom.” You can see how close she must’ve come to my car. You can also see the burnout marks from where she stepped on the gas (although she thought she was pressing the brake).

This is what I saw out of my window right after the crash. Of course, when I was looking at it, people were getting out of the car. I took this picture a few minutes later.

Another picture of the car; this time the tow truck people are looking at it.

A close-up of the damage. Amazingly the car was not that badly banged up. Later that night, they actually drove it down the hill to the right; they didn’t want to have to cut down those bigger trees, so they found a spot where there were only a few small trees.

This is what’s left of my porch.

Another view of what’s left of my porch. It was getting dark by now, as you can see.

A close-up of the porch. I’m going to have to clear this mess up today, because Amanda has a hard time climbing down over all the broken wood and nails.

Well, there you have it. Sorry about the small picture sizes; I don’t have enough disk space on my website to host all of the high-resolution pictures that I take. (Perhaps next year I can upgrade to more space… we’ll see.)

  1. This is another fine example of why drivers above the age of 65 should be tested yearly in order to renew their licenses.

My father used to be the Facilities Director for Southgate at Shrewsbury. It’s an upscale retirement community and assisted living facility. One day, an elderly woman did the same exact thing: thought she’d stepped on the brake before shifting her car into drive, but actually stepped on the accelerator. Her Cadillac lurched forward, and drove right through the brick dining room wall of an elderly man’s apartment, which was adjacent to the parking lot.

And, of course, there was the elderly man in California (?) who drove his car through an outdoor market, killing several people.

Recently, on Veterans Day, there was an elderly man in northern Massachusetts who backed over his life-long friend and veteran as they were preparing to participate in a local parade.

Accidents happen, for sure. I’ve had my share (and I know that you have too). But statistics prove that inexperienced, young, and elderly drivers are by far the most dangerous.

I’m glad to hear that no one was injured, and hopefully, your landlord will act quickly to repair the damage that your home sustained. Good luck!
